What a Day!

The first Rosine Bluegrass Gospel Show is in the books, and it was a success.

I couldn’t be happier. Everyone, the bands and the audience, showed God how much they love Him.

For an intro, I spoke a little about the church’s history with Bill Monroe and thanked the Rosine Community Church members for hosting this new, monthly event.

Everything that you worry about when you organize an event like this worked out great. Sound, lighting, parking, seating—I don’t think it could have come across any better.

We started right at 6pm, as scheduled, and let me tell you, Kenneth and Angie Newell were superb. With Kristy Whiteside backing them up on bass, you couldn’t ask for more.

Two things stood out for me: their harmonies and their testimonies. Just a perfect blend of how God had touched their lives and then pouring their hearts out in song.

At 7pm we took a short five-minute break to rearrange the mics and let folks stretch their legs and use the restroom if needed.

Even the short break passed by smoothly. Before beginning again, I asked the church’s Pastor Danny Veteto to say a prayer.

Then The Caney Creek Gang stepped up to the mics, and boy, did we have some fun singin’ for the Lord.

That’s Danny Joines on the fiddle at the mic. To your far right is Jackson Groves on lead guitar. Between Danny and Jackson is Larry Hill on banjo. Behind Danny, barely seen, is Kristy Whiteside on bass. To Danny’s right is Kenneth Newell on mandolin. And to your far left is me, Todd Autry, on rhythm guitar.

One song Danny sang lead on was “What a Day That Will Be.” That’s where I found the title for this blogpost. A perfect fit!

We asked the audience to sing with us on that one, and they obliged. They jumped right in on some others, too.

The night turned out to be like an old-time church singin’ where you feel the Holy Spirit down deep in your soul and it makes you want to sing and shout.

I’m already looking forward to our next Rosine Bluegrass Gospel Show September 27, when For His Glory plays at 6pm, and The Possum Pickers play at 7pm.

I said everything turned out great, and it did, but there was this one flaw of mine. I didn’t get enough photos. If you were there and snapped a few pics, would you be so kind as to share them with me?

I was able to film both bands. When I finish editing those videos, I will be post them on my Notes of Blue YouTube channel.

I sure do hope you’ll come and join us next time September 27, 6-8pm, at The Rosine Community Church, for a good time pickin’ and singin’ for the Lord.
